In the eyes of employers and investors, first impressions act as a “gateway” to determine whether you’re worth moving forward with. For graduating students who are actively seeking job opportunities or planning to start a business, first impressions go far beyond appearance or greetings—they are reflected in confident posture, the way you present your ideas, and your professional communication style.
A well-written CV may get you an interview, but how you walk into the room, shake hands, speak your first sentence, or handle unexpected situations can be the deciding factors that lead an employer or investor to think: “Is this someone I want to work with?”

In today’s competitive landscape, where candidates often have similar technical qualifications, non-verbal communication, a clear voice, and the ability to create a positive impression in the first few minutes can set you apart. That’s why mastering the art of making a great first impression is a critical investment for your career journey—whether you pursue employment or entrepreneurship.
To better prepare SBS students for both academic and professional development in international environments, the Business Administration Department at Saigon Business School (SBS) organized the workshop “Mastering First Impressions and Business Etiquette” on the morning of July 9, 2025.

The workshop was led by Ms. My Nguyễn, founder of Grace & Beyond, a seasoned expert in communication and etiquette. With her clear, practical, and engaging teaching style, she created an effective and accessible learning experience—particularly for international students, as the entire session was delivered in English.
Core topics covered in the workshop included:
- Techniques for creating strong first impressions: Understanding the roles of posture, body language, voice, and personal presence in shaping others’ initial perceptions.
- Business etiquette in professional environments: Guidance on appropriate behavior and norms in formal settings.
- Handling communication in real-world scenarios: Strategies for effectively navigating meetings, client interactions, and networking events.
- Building confidence: Developing the ability to take control of the space and use non-verbal cues deliberately.
- Role-play and direct feedback: Students participated in hands-on role-play exercises and received immediate evaluations to improve their performance.
The workshop not only helped students gain a clearer understanding of the importance of personal image and communication skills but also offered practical techniques to adapt their behavior to different contexts. It served as a meaningful part of their preparation for internships, interviews, and professional work environments both locally and internationally.

The event received very positive feedback from students, especially for its open learning atmosphere, hands-on practice, and strong applicability. It provided not only knowledge beyond the classroom but also a valuable opportunity to build confidence and develop communication skills—often overlooked during intense academic schedules.
This workshop is part of SBS’s broader soft skills development program, designed to equip students for well-rounded growth—from technical competence to personal mindset, from academic knowledge to practical skills—so they can thrive and compete in modern workplaces. It also lays a strong foundation for them to become future business leaders with confidence, professionalism, and a global outlook.
