On November 8th, Saigon Business School (SBS) joined an engaging online session with Temasek Polytechnic students, organised by Mr. Standley Tan, one of the Temasek Polytechnic lecturers in charge of the Overseas Student Internship Program (OSIP) for Vietnam, and Freya Uyen, SBS’s Student Mobility Program Manager. This meeting provided an in-depth look at SBS’s internship opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, highlighting unique experiences, growth opportunities, and practical insights for students considering an overseas internship.

Highlights from session

Mr. Standley Tan opened the session, welcoming students from a range of courses, including Communications and Media Management, Marketing, Business, Culinary and Catering Management, International Trade and Logistics, and introduced the focus of the discussion on SBS’s internship offerings in Vietnam. Freya Uyen, the internship coordinator, shared positive feedback from previous interns and announced an upcoming promotional video showcasing SBS interns’ experiences in Ho Chi Minh City.

Interns Share Their Experiences

Current SBS interns —Tara D’Souza, Frances Althea Malabanan Perez, and Muhammad Raidani Bin Abdul Razak — shared personal stories from their time interning in Vietnam, detailing how immersing themselves in a new culture helped them gain invaluable skills and confidence. They discussed the challenges and rewards of adapting to life and work in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasising how stepping out of their comfort zones has led to significant personal and professional growth.

Frances also highlighted how the collaborative and relaxed work culture in Ho Chi Minh City contrasted with her experiences in Singapore, underscoring how this environment values adaptability and fosters contribution. She shared that the supportive atmosphere not only encourages interns to take initiative but also promotes open-mindedness and teamwork, helping them grow both professionally and personally.

The session also addressed practical aspects of preparing for an internship in Vietnam. Raidani provided helpful insights on safety, navigating the city, and choosing living arrangements, emphasizing the importance of staying aware and adaptable in a new environment. Tara advised future interns on building professional connections through networking events, which can enhance their overall experience and career growth, while also highlighting the value of immersing themselves in local culture to make the most of their time abroad. Together, these insights aimed to equip students with the confidence and resources needed to thrive in Vietnam.

Looking Ahead

The session concluded with an open invitation for students to ask questions and explore the diverse internship opportunities SBS offers in Vietnam. This collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic reflects SBS’s commitment to providing enriching, cross-cultural internship experiences that prepare students for future careers in an interconnected world.
