09/12/2024On Saturday, 7th December, Saigon Business School (SBS) hosted an engaging event focused on studying at Conestoga College in Canada. This session brought together expert speakers and alumni who shared valuable insights and personal experiences about education and opportunities in Canada.
Speakers
- Mrs. Phuong Chu – Founder & CEO of Laurel Consult.
- Mrs. Duong Nguyen – Representative from Conestoga College, with a background in accounting and extensive experience studying and working in the US.
- Ly Cao – Conestoga College alumna, Social Media Ambassador, and graduate of Information Technology and Business Analytics.
The event began with Mrs. Phuong Chu, who spoke about the supportive environment that Canada offers to international students. She explained how students might face challenges, such as finding jobs directly related to their academic programs, but assured attendees of the career coaching and resources available to help them navigate these obstacles. Mrs. Chu also highlighted the essential requirement of English proficiency for admission to Canadian colleges, emphasizing its importance for academic and professional success.
Mrs. Duong Nguyen shared her unique journey, which included studying accounting in the United States and returning to Vietnam to share her experiences. She encouraged students to embrace failures as stepping stones to success and to focus on developing skills and gaining experiences that set them apart. Mrs. Nguyen described Canada as the “land of opportunity,” noting its strong economy and demand for skilled labour, driven by the country’s low birth rate.
The final speaker – Ly Cao, who joined us online, shared her inspiring story as an alumni of Conestoga College. She spoke about the opportunities she gained through Canada’s 3-year post-graduation work permit, which allowed her to secure a full-time job. Ly reflected on her initial challenges in adjusting to life abroad, including her fear of socialising, but credited Canada’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for helping her grow both personally and professionally. She also shared how living in Canada introduced her to a diverse, multicultural community and helped her develop a newfound appreciation for nature.
The event concluded with an engaging discussion about the many benefits of studying and working in Canada. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the country’s world-class education system, promising career opportunities, and inclusive policies for international students.
Saigon Business School thanks the speakers and attendees for making this session a resounding success! We also extend our gratitude to the students for their active participation and engagement, making the session even more impactful.
